July 9 - Schultz, Keepper take big wins over field of cars in feature events Friday night

(Photos by Dan Hickman/Track Photographer)

LAMONTE, Mo. – Terry Schultz, of Sedalia, made a big run over the other 20 cars that started in the Pitts Homes of Warsaw A Modified feature event Friday night at L A Raceway. After a strong run in his heat race, Schultz started on the pole in the feature event.
Rob Muilenburg started on the outside of row one with Justin Moon and Jeremy Cobb in row two. As the green flag flew, Schultz went to work with Moon moving in on his bumper. A caution flag flew as things unfolded quickly on lap two. Two cars went to the pits and Cobb went off the top of the track on the backstretch sending him to the tail of the field.
Schultz, Moon, Muilenburg, Terry Kirk and Mickey Burrell were in the top five. On the restart, Kirk took third from Muilenburg. With five laps complete, Schultz had already built up over half a straight away lead over Moon. Nathan Vaughn and Dean Wille were on the move through the field of cars and battling each other for fifth.
With eight laps in the books, Vaughn passed Muilenburg and Wille’s car went up in smoke sending him straight to the pits. Five laps were left in the race and Schultz had run away and hid from second-place runner Moon.
Kirk took third with Vaughn and Burrell finishing in the top five.

In the Xtreme Motors Street Stock feature event, two hard charges and no strangers to the winner’s circle started on the front row. Ted Welschmeyer and Sundance Keepper did the honors with Marc Carter and Kevin Perkins in row two.
Keepper quickly shot to the lead in the feature event with Welschmeyer, Perkins, Carter and Jeremy Gordon trying to track him down. Past fast track champion Scott Krause took fifth from Gordon on lap two after picking off Dean Wille. A caution on lap four bunched the field back up and Carter tried to take third from Perkins, but he was having none of that. Wille took sixth from Gordon on the restart.
With half the race in the books, Keepper had built up almost a full straight away lead over Welschmeyer. Perkins and Carter continued to battle throughout the race.
When Keepper crossed the finish line Welschmeyer was just entering the backstretch in second place. Perkins picked up third. Krause and Wille rounded out the top five places.

Colt Cheevers and Darrin Claxton started on the front row in the Pitts Homes of Warsaw B Modified feature event Friday night with Bob Russell and Gary Lewis in row two. The Cinderella story for the night was Stephen Muilenburg, who was able to make the feature event after taking a hard tumble over turns three and four.
Muilenburg jumped the first start of the feature sending him from seventeenth to the tail of the field. The race turned quickly into three-wide racing into turns three and four hanging Jacob Grotewiel out to dry. He went over the edge of the track and gave up several positions.
Cheevers took the lead with Claxton and Ben Kates in hot pursuit. Kates had moved into second and set his sights on Cheevers as Cheevers pulled his modified into the infield of the track. Kates continued to charge spacing himself from the field of cars and catching lap traffic on lap seven. The battle for second entertained fans as Lewis and Claxton swapped places. Claxton momentarily lost control in turns two on lap nine giving Lewis and Billy Bentley the advantage to work in front of him.
Claxton continued to lose ground with less than a handful of laps left. Tyler Lewis moved into fourth in front of Claxton on lap eleven.
Kates his first L A Raceway feature win of the season with Gary Lewis, Bentley, Tyler Lewis and Claxton rounding out the top five. Bentley was unable to pass technical inspections after the race and was disqualified moving Claxton to fourth. Muilenburg finished fifth after working his way all the way from tail of the field.

In the Gill Signs/Specialty Sportswear 305 Sprints, Mitchell Moore and Tom McGarry started on the front row. Moore quickly took the lead with Michael Schouten trailing McGarry for second. With four laps completed, Schlender had moved into fourth with Matt McGarry on his tail.
Tom McGarry began losing ground as Schouten took second on lap nine. Two laps later, Schlender took third. Cody Baker had taken fifth from Matt McGarry and set his sights on Matt’s father, Tom.
A caution on lap 12 gathered the field back together leaving a lap car between first and second place. Moore took off leaving Schouten to get around the lapped car. Baker took fourth from Tom McGarry on the restart.
Schlender got the run he needed on Schouten as he took second from him with just two laps left in the feature.
Moore took the win with Schlender, Schouten, Baker and Tom McGarry finishing in the top five.
In the Jim’s Tire Service Hobby Stocks, Luke Skidmore started on the pole with Steven Tyler on the outside. Skidmore quickly took the lead as Tyler fell back to sixth place. John Simpson settled into second with Michael Tyler and Joey Arnold nipping at his heels.
Michael Tyler took second from Simpson on lap five. Arnold’s car came to a halt in turn two leaving him done for the night. With only four laps left in the feature event, Steven Tyler had moved into third behind Michael Tyler. Two laps later, his car broke something and he shot straight off the track in turn three and stopped sending him to the trailer.
Skidmore took the feature win with Michael Tyler, Simpson, Ronnie Livengood and Mark Harrison taking top honors.

L A Raceway invites fan to continue to join them through July’s “Month of Speed” with Yeager’s Cycle Race Night on Friday, July 16, and Pro Summer Outlaw Shoot Out Flat Track Motorcycles on Saturday, July 17.

June 25 - Brooks, Boney, Schlender, Skidmore, Welschmeyer pick up wins Friday night

(Photos by Dan Hickman/Track Photographer)

LAMONTE, Mo. – It was a good night of racing at L A Raceway Friday night as John Brooks, Dustin Boney, Luke Skidmore and Ted Welschmeyer drove their race cars to winner’s circle.
In the Pitts Homes of Warsaw B Modified feature event, John Brooks was to start outside of row one, but elected to go to the tail of the field leaving Colt Cheevers and Chris Brockway to do the honors.
With the wave of the green, Cheevers quickly jumped to a five-car length lead over Brockway. Cheevers had built up almost a full straight away lead when the caution flag came out for Bob Russell who looped his racer in turn two. With four laps complete, Brooks had already worked his way into seventh place.
On the restart, Brockway took his best shot at Cheevers going into turns one and two, but Cheevers pulled away as they went down the backstretch. Brooks used the restart to his advantage and moved into fifth. A few laps later, Jacob Grotewiel took second from Brockway.
Another caution flew on lap 10 when Darin Claxton spun out on the backstretch and collected Ernie Walker. Brooks moved into fourth on the restart in front of Gary Lewis after they had spent several laps battling each other.
With a handful of laps left, drivers put on their top game and tried to move forward. Brooks took third from Brockway on lap 11. Grotewiel was rim riding and got pulled off the track in the top of turns three and four giving up several positions. One lap later, Brooks drove past Cheevers down the backstretch.
Brooks picked up the feature win with Cheevers, Brockway, Lewis and Josh Calvert rounding out the top five finishes.

In the 20-lap Pitts Homes of Warsaw A Modified feature event, Dustin Boney started on the pole with Terry Schultz to the outside.
Boney quickly took the lead and no one could catch him. Schultz settled into second with Jesse Stovall in third. Jason Thompson and James McMillin battled for fourth.
McMillin took fourth after a caution on lap three. Stovall continued to hold on strong to third until he took his car to the pits.
Schultz started to gain on Boney towards the end of the feature but ran out of laps. Boney took the win with Schultz, McMillin, Thompson and Scotty Roberts finishing in the top five.

Matt Close and Ryan Schlender started on the front row in the Gill Signs/Specialty Sportswear 305 Sprints feature event.
By the completion of lap one, Schlender lead the field of cars with Close, Haley Arnold, Matt McGarry and Miranda Arnold filing in behind him. A caution on lap five sent Tyler Utz and Miranda Arnold to the tail of the field.
Michael Schouten used the restart to his advantage and took fourth from Haley Arnold. Two more cautions and very slow starts from Schlender, didn’t affect the standings of the top five running sprinters.
A caution with only four laps to complete the race occurred when Utz looped his sprinter in turn one and Lacy Harrison had to get on the brakes hard to stay off of Utz and she makes contact. Her sprinter began to tip over but then settled on all four wheels.
Racing resumed and Schouten almost took third from McGarry with only two laps left, but McGarry retaliated. While Schouten wasn’t looking, Haley Arnold drove right past him as the white flag flew.
Schlender picked up another feature win with Close, McGarry, Haley Arnold and Schouten finishing out the top five.

In the Jim’s Tire Service Hobby Stocks, Luke Skidmore started on the pole with Joey Arnold to his right. Skidmore took the lead bringing Michael Tyler and Donald Grotzinger with him. John Simpson followed pursuit and moved into fourth in front of Arnold by the completion of lap one.
Schlender continued to lead with Grotzinger in second. Tyler, who was setting in third, took his car to the pits on lap nine. Arnold and Simpson battled back and forth for third.
Schlender took the checkered flag with a full straight away lead over Grotzinger. Arnold, Simpson and Steven Tyler finished in the top five.

Dean Wille and Ted Welschmeyer had a very rocky start in the Xtreme Motors Street Stock feature event Friday night. There was quite a bit of contact between the two going into turns one and two with Wille coming out with the lead. However, Jeremy Gordon spun out in turn two and caused a complete restart.
On the restart, Welschmeyer walked away with the lead leaving Wille in second with Jay Prevete, Scott Krause and Kevin Perkins right on his tail.
Krause moved into third by the completion of lap two. One lap later, Prevete lost control of his car and had to get on the brakes allowing Perkins to pass him.
A caution on lap five gave Krause the advantage he needed to take second from Wille. He looked like he would catch Welschmeyer but then drifted really high in turn two allowing Perkins and Wille to drive under him.
Five more cautions in the feature shook the field up allowing Krause to move back into second with Perkins, Wille and Chad Eckhoff in the top five.
Krause charged again for the lead but was denied it by Welschmeyer. Perkins and Wille battled to the finish with Wille earning third. Eckhoff finished fifth.
